La Bleue Pastis
A locally made pastis steeped in history...
The pastis « La Bleue » is a recipe based on plants and herbs. Its name « La Bleue » reminds absinthe which was called « la bleue » in Switzerland in the past. (“La Bleue” means “The Blue”)
Indeed, absinthe was prohibited in 1915. Until this date, the Lemercier Frères distillery was a big producer of this beverage. After the prohibition of absinthe, Georges Labbé, who was the manager of the distillery at this time, decided to reconvert the factory by creating a product close to absinthe but authorized by the law. And, in the 20’s, after several tests, the pastis « La Bleue » was born. The brand « La Bleue » was then registered in 1939.
The traditional pastis « La Bleue » 45% vol. is elaborated with rigorously selected plants and seeds. There are anise, fennel, gentian, star anise, armoise, absinthe (in small quantity) … Nowadays, we produce « La Bleue » as in the past, that is to say by distillation and maceration of these plants and seeds. Hence we can guarantee that our drink is a genuine traditional pastis
In 2001, « La Bleue » was rewarded with the bronze medal at the World Spirit Contest of Brussels. Then, in 2003, it obtained a silver medal at this same contest.
The Pastis La Bleue is used in the composition of other products like the
Griottines with La Bleue, and the Chocolates with La Bleue. Recently, we have launched the "little sister" of the Pastis La Bleue : it is
La Bleue Liqueur.
